Trowbridge Town Hall is alive with colour and fun this week

Trowbridge Town Hall has commissioned artist Kati Saqui to create a balloon sculpture inspired by Dale Chihuly. It has been made using 7000 biodegradable balloons.
The largest piece hangs from the balcony at the back of the building in the Sensory Garden, with smaller explosions of balloons throughout the building.
It appeared in the early hours of Friday morning and will stay up over the weekend.
Jenn Hamblin, visual arts curator for Trowbridge Town Hall and co-director of Court Street Gallery said: “It has been great helping Kati create this amazing sculpture over the last few days. I think the word epic sums it up nicely.
“So many people have been fascinated watching it emerge throughout the day. It has been a huge pleasure seeing children’s eyes pop out and the look of delight and amazement on their faces as they have seen it!
“Adults have also been reunited with their inner child, after all who doesn’t love seeing balloons and 7000 of them is a spectacular experience. It’s great to provide Trowbridge with something FUN. Something we all need at the moment.”
Artist Kati Saqui, said: “I have been using balloons as an art medium to create a sense of enchantment and magic to a place for many years now, such a good medium to prompt delight and uplift the spirit, to surprise and open up conversations that gently rupture the status quo, and ultimately to illuminate the overlooked which are constants in my art practice.
“This commission has been the biggest balloon project I have done so far, using 7000 balloons. It was wonderful to work with Abigail Dicker from local ‘The Little Balloon Company’ and Richard Adams from ‘Balloontastic’, Richard Spooner designed a genius electric compressor feeding with three fillers attached all placed two metres apart to allow for social distancing and Matthew Kent who coordinated the lifting of balloons into position on the balcony.
“A fantastic team. I overheard wonderful comments, “I love the colours I just want to dive into them’, ‘ Looks like artwork from the Centre Pompidou in Paris with the outdoor escalator’. It has been a great pleasure to provide a piece of art for the community of Trowbridge.”
A programme of events for both children and adults has been taking place all week since Monday in the hall and sensory gardens at the rear.
Live music will feature in tomorrow's offerings, along with a ukelele workshop and a family craft and music session.
Organisers said: “All of the events will be ‘pay what you decide’ so people can take part for free.”
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing, group sizes have deliberately been kept small and tickets will need to be booked in advance.
